Welcome to the 2010 Seminar: “The Bible and the Human Person” |
|
The University of Saint Mary of the Lake will once again welcome scholars and participants from across the United States for the annual Summer Scripture Seminar. The theme this year is “The Bible and the Human Person.” Pastoral ministers are constantly faced with issues of theological anthropology. One of the most significant developments in 20th century theology has been the “shift to the personal.” This personalist approach touches many areas of theological reflection, not the least being moral theology and questions of faith and culture. The Bible has a particular contribution to make to contemporary theological reflection on the nature of the human person and human community. In our seminar this year, we will explore the contributions of Genesis, Ezekiel and Daniel, Job and Song of Songs. We will consider the New Testament especially Paul and Luke. Through this survey, we hope to offer participants a sense of the biblical foundations needed for contemporary theology’s engagement of the new questions of the modern age around the human person. As always, we will explore the role the Bible itself has in this theological reflection through the deeply rooted Catholic notion of the sacred page as the “soul of theology.” And there will be single topic lectures to explore application of these insights in moral theology and pastoral ministry. As always, the seminar will provide ample time for prayer, fellowship with an extraordinary group of people, the opportunity for private study in the Feehan Memorial Library and the experience of the natural beauty of Mundelein Seminary’s 800 acre wooded campus. |
